. The United Nations agreed the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959.
. The aim was to protect the interests and well-being of all children in the world.
. There are over 40 'articles', covering areas such as war, poverty, sexual abuse and education.
. Yet, at the last count, 20 million children had been forced to leave their homes as a result of war, 500 million were living on less than $1 a day, 170 million were malnourished and over 100 million never saw the inside of a school.
