Blackburn solutions - drinking, drugs & smoking

Here are some of the suggestions young people came up with to help solve the problems in their communities.

There should be support for young people trying to stop smoking (like giving them nicotine patches etc).

People should come into schools to talk about drugs and alcohol and what they can do to you – rather than boring old people talking to us, it could be young people who’ve had experience of this – we could use things like drama to make it more interesting.

Parenting classes should encourage parents not to smoke, drink or take drugs around children, especially when they are young.

There should be more restrictions on advertising cigarettes.

People take drugs because of family problems, so there should be more support to deal with family problems.

Police should take street drinking more seriously – when young people are caught the police should take them home to their parents.

The police should stop adults going into shops and buying alcohol for young people.
